Members of Coomunity Solar Cooperative celebrated the completion of their first solar power on the roof of Samgaksan High School, 15 June 2013.
Citizens can generate their own power; Solar, hydro and wind.
In light of the Fukushima disaster in Japan and a series of nuclear energy crisis in Korea, many communities realized that they should not just leave their future to government or power company.
Citizen-owned solar power is spreading now in Korea and ‘Community Solar Cooperative’ just began to generate solar electricity in Seoul, the capital of Korea.
- About 60 million KRW (about 53,000 USD) raised by over 230 individuals.
- Solar power of 20 kW capacity installed in the roof of Samgaksan high school began its commercial operation since June 2013.
- Student, teacher, resident and civil society mainly compose of the cooperative.
- Educating member, student and visitor on solar renewable energy.
- Target to expand 500kW by 2017.
“I am the owner of community solar power” Jeong-eun Son(picture below) is in her 3rd grade of Samgaksan high school in Seoul. She became a member of Community Solar Cooperative last year when she heard the citizen-owned solar power to be installed at her school.
